I fail over and over again. I fall short constantly. I give in to the natural man way to often.
But despite my failings, despite my short comings-Heavenly Father still blesses me-with friends, with family, with tender mercies. The gospel is true, the atonement and the plan of salvation are our only way to eternal happiness.
I hope each of us can reflect on the beauty of the gospel this Christmas season and remember that the true gift of Christmas is eternal life and the blessings of family, friends, and love.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

tossed on every wave
while the winds wail around me
i will not be afraid
to call out for captain
to calm the waves in me
when i stand a little taller
it's only then i finally see
i stand in holy places
protected from the storm
anchored safe in harbor
though my sails are ripped and worn
i stand in holy places
and i will not move
until the captain comes and says well done
he is the hope i hold on to
in holy places
there is a harbor in his holy house
an anchor in his grace
that steadies in the waves of doubt
and in every holy place
no matter where i travel
his spirit's guiding me
with the lord as my captain
there is a peaceful port in me
i stand in holy places
protected from the storm
anchored safe in harbor
though my sails are ripped and worn
i stand in holy places
and i will not move
until the lord has come and says well done
he is the hope i hold on to
i stand in holy places
protected from the storm
anchored safe in harbor
though my sails are ripped and worn
i stand in holy places
and will not move
until the lord has come and says well done
he is the hope i hold on to
in holy places

Now I don't know anything about the soldier who died. But it doesn't matter-he died fighting to protect the freedoms which I hold dear-ones we all hold dear. And as I think about all the other many men and women who fight everyday on our behalf, I hold my hand to my heart and I am indeed grateful. I don't care what your political beliefs are-I just hope that as you read this you will take the time to say a prayer for each soldier and take a moment to say thank you for all the ones who have died fighting for us.

Do you understand who you are?
Part of the Father lives in you.
And if you continue on this path
Every promise God has given will come true.
Heaven on earth, in the House of God so much fills your heart and mind.
Woman of great worth, woman of promise, daughter of the divine;
Pure and holy, in a long white dress
You promise forever and you are blessed.
And the Father looks down and the angels surround that place.
They know the truth—all that you can do
And you do too, 'cause you have eyes to see
What heaven sees in you.
Along with this song, there was a section in the BOM that I couldn't stop going back to in my personal studying this week. Inside the temple, I read the verses again and it made sense. I guess my lesson for the temple was to remember that Joy comes through and in our Father in Heaven and our Savior. I am beyond grateful for the love of my father in Heaven. I am grateful for my family and friends who support me constantly. I am grateful for my roommates: for Sarah because she is my partner in crime-my confidant and my friend; for Stephanie because she loves like me and reminds me its okay to be human. I am grateful for the temple. I wish everyone could understand how close we can actually be to our father when we are in the temple. I would give anything to be in the temple every day-it is the one place I know without any doubt that my Father hears me and is constantly there. If only everyone could know that.

Well I hate my head. In case you all wanted to know. I love our new house...I love the spirit. But I hate how all my stuff in my room is all over the place. I feel claustrophobic. I've never had my room this small-crammed with all my stuff. So its weighing down on my head.
Add to that the fact that I need a really good breakdown. A wholesome cry; one that will allow me to deal with the choice my heart finally made. One that will help me to forgive myself for fighting with my mom. I need to cry and let it all out, but can't ever do it because there is always someone at my house. I am starting to feel claustrophobic throughout my whole house (which isn't really even my house and that stresses me out more-not that Stephanie hasn't let us make this our home-its just the principle that she owns it and we just stay here-Again I love my roommate and the person she is and the home she has let us call our own-I'm just letting some of the thoughts out of my head and into here)
Again-all of this is swarming in that beautiful HEAD of mine. I want to cut it off. Do I really need it? Because it just causes me so much grief and turmoil. (I need that wholesome cry-it really would help...)

Now, I dont generally struggle with impure thoughts...and my beliefs seem to be right on track. But when I think about the feelings I sometimes have-whether they be fear, heartbreak, selfishness, abandonment, etc-I wonder to myself if sometimes I need to be freed from the clutches of these. I cannot count the number of times I have fallen to my knees begging my Father for more patience and more love towards certain people during certain times or begging to be rid of the obsessive thoughts that roll through the corriders of my mind.
I think a lot of times the feelings come from self percieved inadequacies or insecurities. Going to the temple really helped my self worth. The magnitude of love that I felt on that day cannot ever be described. The peace my inner mind was granted through sacred words is a miracle. And I wish that I could remember those feelings (or stay inside the temple) constantly. But it is not the easiest task to perform...that natural man is a real party pooper. And I would be lying if I said I was strong enough to kick him out of my life for good.
But what I love is that through the atonement, we all can slowly begin to win the wrestling match with the natural man. We all can learn a few more moves to pin him out of our lives for good.
"I am the way," the Lord declared. "After your tribulation I will feel after you, And if you harden not your hearts, and stiffen not your necks against me, I will heal you."

This is my heart. I don't even know where to start with my experiences over the last few days. I don't know how to express my gratitude for the love that my heart has for everyone who shared my day. Nothing in my entire life has meant more to me then being in the Temple with the people who have supported me throughout this decision. I am overwhelmed with love for my Grandma and Chantal-who stood by my side through every part. I am so grateful to Beka, Arianne, Jessica D., Jessica G., and Joseph for preparing me and then being there in the Temple. I'm grateful to those who came but did not come in, or to those who came but had problems along the way. (My Mom, Sarah, Orin, Pam, Evan, and Melissa) And finally, to Dan-the boy I have loved with all my heart for 8 years. The Man-friend that loves me best.
I am forever grateful to all of my friends who supported this decision. "Life is partly what we make it and partly what it is made by the friends we choose."

I love to see the temple..I'm going there today. I'll covenant with my Father, I'll promise to obey.
My cup is so full right now; it is on the verge of running over. How amazing our Father-in-Heaven's plan is-such simplicity and beauty lies in this plan. I've always known in my heart that this was right, but recently its more then right for me...it has become my everything.
Today I enter the temple. Today I take out my endowments. Today I finally accomplish the promise I made to myself all those years ago. The gravity of that accomplishment makes my cup spill over...it is better then any other goal I have set for myself. It defines me. It provides great happiness-and while I know it is not an end point, it is a great check-point.
So in the last few moments of silence I have this morning, I have to say: Oh sweet the joy this sentence gives-I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES.

When you are focused on one thing then you may overlook something better. It may not seem better right away, but you have to remember, guys are just like girls in the respect that they are looking for someone too. They can make the same mistakes that we make. If you aren't dating a guy, haven't even gone on one date, don't you dare put everything you have into it. Because if it falls through, if he decides to go for someone else, it will hurt like a break-up when you weren't even dating.

-Ghandi
I have always been one to say that if my life sucks I should go and serve another. It's almost my die hard motto. This does not mean that I succeed at it, nor do I manage to get out of my rut sometimes to actually serve. What it does mean is that I know that through the service of others we heal ourselves.
Thursday morning I set out with a car full of people and bags. We headed west for six hours. Drove into the deep center of the Appalachian Mountains. I was heading out on a trip that I have been excited about for months. I was participating in a program called RAM (Remote Area Medical). This is an outsourcing program that goes to remote areas with high populations of uninsured, under-insured, unemployed, or under-employed people and provides medical and dental care. I went as a student pharmacist to gain practice in my community outsourcing. I spent four days waking up at 4am to arrive on-site by 5; by 5:30 I was in Triage shuffling patients through as fast as my partner and I could go. I talked with patients, did their work-ups, and then sent them on their way. I worked until I was physically exhausted; by the end of the day I had enough stamina to eat and shower before I fell into my bed in a deep sleep.
My one goal for this trip was to know that I had given my all to help these patients. At the end of the day today, as I changed from my soaking wet clothes, I looked at my partner and we both smiled. We knew we had given our all. The drive home was almost impossible. We were all so mentally and physically tired that I never thought we would arrive home safe.
Now that it is over, I wish I could go back. Throughout the days I earned the name of smiley because even at 5 in the morning I was smiling for my patients. When I think about how some days it seems like a chore to put a smile on my face because the world is weighing me down it makes me sad. It makes me determined to strive a little harder to serve EVERY day. Life is so easily put into perspective when you are in the service of your fellow being. True joy and happiness comes from that service. I hope that as I start my week tomorrow, I can find at least one person to serve each day.

We claim the privilege of worshiping the Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
I read this article of faith yesterday in Relief Society and for some reason it struck something deep within my core. I couldn't shake how important and necessary this particular article of faith is. Today I found out why.I've been preparing for quite some time now to go to the temple. It has been a long, drawn out, and rigorous process. It took months of deep, sincere prayers and studying of multiple references and scriptures. I have a testimony of how sacred and how important the covenants made in the temple are; and I knew that I would not be able to go to the temple until I knew I was ready. A week prior from yesterday, I set my date. I met with my Bishop and we decided on a temple date. It was not a decision I came to lightly. It was a decision I made with respect and complete reverence. It was a decision that I will cherish forever.
That all being said, since I have made my decision the opposition in my life has increased ten fold (just as I knew it would). I have been struggling with things that I didn't think would be an issue. And today, today I faced the biggest one yet. Today, that article of faith became my shield and my strength.
After weeks of avoiding my old roommate and all the sadness/pain/frustration I have felt since moving out, I went to meet with her today. I did not want to go, but I went because I knew that it had to be settled. I went because I wanted to try and make it right in some sense of the word. Things were fine for the first fifteen to twenty minutes, however, things quickly took a turn. One minute we were discussing frustrations over the move-out, the next minute it flipped and we were discussing religion. Things were said that I will not repeat. Things that hurt more then I could ever express. I was told that my beloved Book of Mormon was wrong and evil; that it simply couldn't be true.
I was speechless. I couldn't string together thoughts. My blood was boiling within my body, but my spirit refused to engage. I tried to explain my faith, I tried to make it clear that I know with EVERY fiber of my being that this church is true. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I don't need scientific proof or historical proof. Faith is not proven through logic; faith is learned through experience and through trusting the Lord. Nothing I said would get through, so I ended it and left.
And then I remembered that tender mercy of the Lord that I was granted yesterday. The one that I didn't quite understand at that very time and place. The one that makes perfect sense now: I claim the privilege of worshiping the Almighty God according to the dictates of MY OWN conscience. And I allow all men/women the same privilege.
I stand firm in my decision; I am going to the temple on August 12th and it is the right decision. I know this church is true. I know that Joseph Smith had an answer to his prayer; that he was a prophet of God and that he restored this gospel. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that the teachings in it are important and that it, along with the Bible, testifies of Christ and his love for us. I know that the pathway to righteousness goes through the temple. I am humbled to stand on that pathway and walk his way. I know opposition is going to be strong, but I will not alter my course. I will prove myself herewith and someday kneel at my Father's feet.

But that is hard for me. I want to fix it...to deal with it. I really care about this person; I value their friendship and presence in my life.
Somehow something went wrong and both of us were let down. And I hate this waiting game.

Where Oh Where Do You Start When the World Looks So Amazing from Every Perspective?!
"When you set your sights on the temple, EVERYTHING else falls into it's proper place. It may not be the way you want it to be, but it will turn out the way it is supposed to turn out."Saturday I worked all day and then went to hang out with the Brow. We had an awesome time (at least I did) being girlie and painting our nails. Then we made the decision to go see the movie My Sister's Keeper (we had both read the book and really wanted to see the movie)...we were also both greatly disappointed in the ending...but that's not important. After the movie, we ended up sitting in my car in her driveway talking. For some reason the Brow and I enjoy having deep meaningful conversations in the car. Anyways, we talked about a lot of important stuff through the evening and it left me with lots to think about...
By Sunday morning I was crawling out of my skin. I knew that I couldn't avoid these issues anymore. It wasn't an option. But what I didn't understand was why it was so hard for me. At church, the sacrament talks were right on point. They were so amazing and the spirit was so strong. After sacrament I snagged the Bishop for a very important conversation-when that was over I was on a spiritual HIGH! Church continued and it was wonderful. My roommates and I came home and had TONS of people over to eat Breakfast and play games. After everyone had gone home for the night, I got a phone call. It was one of the people I was avoiding. It was one of the conversations I didn't want to have....but I couldn't avoid it any longer.
So I had the conversation. And this huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. Even better, we both understood one another and finally let go of all the hurts. It was exactly what I needed to end my amazing day.
I am so blessed. I am so grateful to be in this gospel. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have, but even more so for the eternal perspective my Father in Heaven holds. I am grateful for Sundays, for their restorative effect. I am grateful for two wonderful roommates who uplift and support me-who literally bring me joy. I am grateful for more then I can express right now. And I am overwhelmed with love for not only my Father, but everyone in my life. I'm excited that I set my date. I am ready. And even though challenges will arise over the next month to deter me...I will make it through.

"Country Roads Take Me Home"
I have Tons of pictures so I will update this post with them in the morning! But for now...sleep!
Just Thinking Outloud
Voicemail message
I'll pick you up and we'll do
Dinner by the fire
And we'll just watch it snow
It's from a year ago
Baby, I love you
And I can't wait to see you tonight
I've been thinking about you
All day long
She pushes nine to save
But still can't erase 'cause --
[Chorus]
It makes her feel close
Makes her smile
It's like he's with her almost
Til the tears take over
She's still in hell
But she tells herself
She's ready to let him go
'Cause that makes her feel close
It's just a worn out
Notre Dame t-shirt
She's gotten mad
And tried to throw that thing away
At least a hundred times
But she's got it on tonight
He used to wear it on the weekend
Just runnin' around
Probably forgot he even left it
behind
She says it keeps her warm
Oh, but it's so much more
[Chorus]
It makes her feel close
Makes her smile
It's like he's with her almost
Til the tears take over
She's still in hell
But she tells herself
She's ready to let him go
'Cause that makes her feel close

When Leaving the Zoo, Start Running towards the Parking lot,Yelling 'Run For Your Lives! They're Loose!'
It's been a really amazing day and nothing significant has happened. But my heart is full of love and I just feel at peace. I spent the morning working on tasks for my Regional Calling, my Compassionate Services Calling, and working on my research. Then I went to work at Walgreens (where only two people smiled...seriously). On my way home I called and talked to my brother.
Words can not express how grateful I am for this new chapter in our relationship. I've always wanted to be close with my siblings and for various reasons over the years it just never worked out. But now that Adrian is 18 and more mature, we talk and have these awesome conversations. He even took 2 days off from work so that he could spend time with me when I get home next week! I'm excited to be going home, but as always there is a feeling of caution and unease. Hopefully it will be an exciting trip and we will be able to make some good memories. If nothing else, my brother and I will steal one of the cars and hit the road on our own!
Yesterday was also beautiful. I love good Sundays. I mean Sundays are always good, but yesterday was one of those Sundays that leaves you feeling good for the rest of the week. I did the early morning snuggle fest with my roomies (we lie in bed and talk about silly stuff), then we all helped eachother pick out cute outfits for church! (I know I keep saying it...but I love our new house and the new roommate to death) Sacrament was really moving, there were only two speakers but the lessons were about obedience and the happiness that comes with it. Then the lesson in D&C was fantastic. By relief society, I was overwhelmed with the spirit. The lesson in relief society was beautiful. We talked about temple ordinances (specifically the work for the dead) and my heart overflowed because someday (very soon) I will get to do those ordinances for my Grandma. (Wasn't she silly? Man I miss her every day)

After an emotional relief society, I went to my Regional meeting, and then Joseph, Isaac, Sarah, Stephanie, and I made dinner and watched Anastasia. I love ending Sundays surrounded by people I love. I hope I never grow out of that. Honestly, I hope that my life will be filled with people I love. I think that is why today was so peaceful and beautiful. Because in the end it doesn't matter what I accomplish if I don't love first. "The more you care, the stronger you can be."
And if that doesn't work out...I guess I'll have to leave the zoo running and screaming ;)

Boys and Kittens are SILLY
So then this morning I wake up to talk to my new roommate (who I absolutely love-seriously she is a complete breath of fresh air in my life). Here the two of us were, sitting on the floor talking about even more silliness of boys, ie. the fact that they like you for EVER, but never tell you cause they are scared (only to find out when they do finally admit it-you have liked them all along) I told Vanilla (the new roommates nickname) that I just wish the boy could come up and say, "Hey! I like you...You like me? Great!" Wouldn't that make dating so much easier?! (Maybe instead of waiting on the boy I like I should do that...yeah right)
So anyways here we are sitting on the floor and my silly Sassy (who absolutely loves the new house) comes over to play. Vanilla and I decide to give her catnip...It was hilarious. We put the catnip in the lid of the container-which then ended up on Sassy's head...it was awesome.
So anyways...I have a lot of stuff that I could write about-but honestly I just want to keep it silly because life needs silliness sometimes.
Pictures of Sassy...look how much she has grown! Silly Boys and silly kittens....

**Here is a video of another silly boy...I wanted to put it on facebook but I am afraid he will get really mad...so I'm putting it here instead...

We went to the DC temple to do baptisms and it was absolutely breathtaking. The spirit was so strong and moving. All the temple workers were so excited to have us there and they shared such fascinating stories. When we were done we walked around the temple to enjoy its beauty. Both of us had experiences that we talked about on the car ride home and both of us got really emotional.
Then Friday we drove down to North Carolina for Heather's dad's wedding. The drive was very long and by the end of it we were both a little loopy. Saturday was the wedding and it was a very simple but beautiful ceremony. Heather and I both got choked up by her dad (and he made me cry even harder later because he shared with me that I will always be his adopted daughter and kissed my cheek).
I left North Carolina early Sunday morning to try and get back in time for church...I made it-but got pulled over right outside of Richmond and had a nasty cop give me a nasty ticket...Now I get to go to court and fight it because he definitely wrote me a ticket for way over what I was actually going.
The rest of the week has been spent packing and working. Trying to get ready for our move tomorrow! The whole thing is really bitter sweet. I feel like I am saying goodbye to an old portion of myself and walking towards the new person I am hoping to become. Its really hard and I don't know if anyone realizes the impact that moving out is having on me. I know it is for the best-but Sushi is still my friend. And I love her. I don't want our relationship to change-but these past few months have changed both of us. I know me leaving is hurting her and I've hurt her a lot over these past few months. I never wanted that for our friendship, but I also had to make a decision that still makes me sick to my stomach. It didn't change how I look at her as a person or as a friend. But it did change the way I look at myself and the steps I take to care for my friends. And I have to step back now and re-evaluate if those steps are healthy for me.

I want to start today by telling you about my Grandma. Her hair was golden and her eyes crystal blue; she had a smile that could light up any room and probably made a few guys weak in the knees. Upon a closer examination of this woman, anyone could see that her knees showed permanent scuff marks and her hands, although still beautiful, were rough and calloused. Her face up close was wrinkled from many days of laughter and also from a few moments of sorrow. However, it was not her appearance that made her so beautiful. Her heart-one probably made of solid gold-was the thing that made her gorgeous. She was a person that constantly loved. She held hands when support was needed; she pushed when it was time to grow; She acted as a lighthouse to many people, she guided those around her through the storms of life and stood as a beacon of love through the light of Christ. It was this light that made her beautiful. It is the light of a mother, the light of a grandmother, the light that Heavenly Father can bestow in each of us.
In a conference talk by President Thomas S. Monson he stated, “God could not be everywhere-and so he gave us mothers.” Each of us in this room has probably had some impact from a mother or grandmother and can relate to this quote. We all know in part the work that mothers perform and the love they can provide. And even though, we ourselves may not yet be mothers (or Fathers) we too can develop the qualities and traits of a mother-to help our Father in Heaven to carry out his work as President Monson has said. By obtaining these characteristics, we can become better home teachers, better visiting teachers, better friends, and ultimately better servants to our Father in Heaven. But how can we, as young single adults, develop mother-like attributes that will enable us to be mother-like and inevitably Christ like?
In my pondering of this question, I thought it best to gain insight from our leaders who set such wonderful examples for us. In Elder Holland’s talk, “Because She is a Mother”, he states that a mother strives to love God and live the Gospel, she pleads for comfort and guidance, she promises to be faithful, she shows compassion and forgiveness to others, she is meek and lowly of heart, she is determined, and she is often challenged and fatigued. From Elder Holland’s list and through further study, I narrowed my thoughts down to a few key traits that can help us cultivate the strength of a mother within our own hearts.
First is the principle of prayer. Nephi tells us in 2 Nephi 32: 9 that we MUST pray always. Prayer is not something that we should take lightly; prayer is our direct communication with our Father in Heaven. If we close that communication line, we deny ourselves his counsel and insight into our activities. When we stop praying, we also deny ourselves of a relationship with God. In my own personal life, prayer has been my saving grace. My personal and private prayers have taught me of God’s love and helped me to develop a deep a meaningful relationship with him. Without prayer, there is no possibility of such a relationship. Gandhi once said, “Prayer is not always about asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one’s weakness.” When we pray, we are closer to the Spirit and we are able to listen to its promptings more intently.
The promptings of the spirit can help us to develop the second trait, Charity. In her book, If Life were Easy, it wouldn’t be Hard, Sherri Dew states: “Charity is not an emotion or an action. It is not something we feel or do. Charity is who the Savior is. It is his most defining and dominant attribute.” The essence of charity can be summed up in the lyrics of the song, “Because I have been given much”:
Because I have been given much, I too must give. I shall divide my gifts from thee, with every brother that I see. I cannot see another’s lack and I not share my loaf of bread, my roof’s safe shelter over head, that he too may be comforted. I’ll show love to those in need, I’ll show that love by word and deed
Charity is intertwined with love; in order to love, you must have charity and in order to have charity you must have love. Nephi declares that charity is a commandment: “the Lord God hath given a commandment that all men should have charity, which charity is love. And except they have charity they were nothing.” (2nd Nephi 26:30) Charity and love embody the nurturing traits of a mother. Mother’s are called to nurture and love, Elder Holland states that the call to nurture is not limited to a mother’s own flesh and blood-this is why a mother can take in others, can serve as a relief society president or a visiting teacher. We too can wield this power if we learn how to be charitable and loving. Remember, Charity NEVER faileth.
The last trait I want to focus on today is patience. Patience is defined as the state of endurance under difficult circumstances. This can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain. Elder Neal A. Maxwell counseled that patience is tied very closely to faith in our Heavenly Father. In D&C 67: 13 we are told to continue in patience until we are perfected. Seems slightly daunting to me! I’m not sure if I’ll ever reach perfection-however, the more our faith in God grows, the more patient we can become. Like Elder Maxwell said, patience is tied to our faith…it is much easier to maintain patience when we have faith that our Heavenly Father will carry us through the storms. Patience for yourselves is most important. You are not expected to be the best; mothers are not expected to have perfect homes and perfect children. Elder Holland states: If you try to be the best you can be you have done all that a human being can do and all that God expects you to do. So be kind to yourself, be patient with yourself. You do not have to be perfect when it comes to developing motherly traits. You are going to make mistakes, Mother’s make mistakes and we aren’t there yet so we can’t expect to be better then they are!
The beauty that a mother possesses has probably touched each of you here today-I know that the mother’s in my life have changed my life forever. We too can have that impact in our own settings. We can develop motherly traits and use those traits to uplift and improve others. I believe Sister Hinckley said it best when she said:
“I don’t want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenk’s lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor’s children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone’s garden. I want to be there with children’s sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived.”
We are not required to be perfect-we are expected to live. We should be like the mothers and grandmothers in our lives, those with scuff marks and rough hands; whose faces are defined by laugh lines. We should love constantly, hold hands when support is needed, and provide encouragement. We should be a lighthouse-shining Christ’s light through our countenance to guide other’s home. May we all strive to pray earnestly, to open the lines of communication with our Father in Heaven; may we develop the Christ-like attributes of love and charity and remember to give because we have been given much; and finally may we all be patient with ourselves, allowing room for mistakes and challenges. I know our Father in Heaven lives. I know that he doesn’t expect perfection-instead he expects us to strive earnestly to be our best ‘selves’. I am grateful for this gospel-for the joy that it brings into my life and for the person it is molding me into. I am grateful for challenges and the knowledge and growth they bring. I am grateful for mothers, for grandmothers, and for the love that God has blessed them with. I pray that each of us can harness the attributes of a mother, that we can strive to be Christ-like and serve others, and that we can perfect ourselves through patience. If we can strive to do all these things, then we have done the best we can do, all that God expects us to do.

I'm watching the new Michael J. Fox special on ABC. The man is purely amazing and if you've never read his book you should...its inspiring. This man maintains a positive attitude despite the fate that he has been dealt. He suffers from Parkinson's and the current drug regimen does not provide a cure, only a temporary relief from the shakes and staggering. But yet, Michael continues to push himself. He continues holding onto his faith to take risks. He does not let fear rule him. He pushes through his inadequacies. He remembers to be grateful and considers himself a lucky man.
If only each of us could have this type of optimism in times of trial. If only we could face our adversities with faith and courage. If we could hold our heads high and remember to be grateful that our Father in Heaven is molding us into his own likeness. That He trusts us enough to bare this load for but a small moment-and if we bear it well he will exalt us on high.
I write these thoughts mainly for myself. As a reminder. Because I get swept away in the day to day routines and forget my worth. I forget that I am a daughter of God and that is worth its weight in gold. I forget to be grateful that I am in school, that I have wonderful people surrounding me, that I am healthy, that my family is safe. I forget...but only for a moment. And then I snap out of it and I remember that I am so very blessed. And it is in those moments that my heart is truly full.
Like Michael J. Fox, I hope that I can keep my gaze upward. That I can maintain an optimist's perspective. Because having the gospel in my life is truly happiness, it is true joy.
“I can get sad, I can get frustrated, I can get scared, but I never get depressed - because there's joy in my life.” -Michael J. Fox

Maybe I am just exhausted from rotations-its probably the exact reason.
But what I do know, is that I am tired of this nagging voice in my head that tells me I will never be worth it. And I am tired of it being confirmed over and over again.
Agh. I must to bed before I cry myself silly. Friday will come soon enough, then I'll be home with my Sarah. Then Heather comes next Wednesday. Girlfriends seem like the best remedy to my hurting heart.

Isn't it amazing that this statement is so simple, yet so profound. Human nature causes us to fight the against the faith we have. Its like the theory of chaos-we want to keep things ordered...but we can't because the law of chaos fights us. Similarly, our own human nature fights when we want to cling to the rod.
Its amazing to me what else our human nature causes us to fight against-even if it is something we innately want-we still have a hard time accomplishing it all. It can be as complicated as desperately wanting to connect with a friend but the human nature of pride gets in the way. Or it can be as simple as wanting to read your scriptures every day but the day to day stresses get in the way.
And yet, our Heavenly Father sits patiently waiting for us to just turn to him. And the second we do there he stands with open arms, ready to enfold us, to comfort us, and to shower us with blessings. I hope that each of us can strive a little harder to fight that human nature and cling a little stronger.
Maybe then we can read our scriptures a little more and maybe we can let go of the pride and find that closeness in that friend again.

I called Heather on thursday night...I told her that despite the fact I am doing okay, I need my best friend. She bought a plane ticket within the hour. She wont be here for two more weeks, but I am so excited to see her. (We just saw each other in March...but it seems like a lifetime ago)
I am so lucky to have a best friend in her. And honestly I cant wait for the long nights of conversation, the reassurances of the gospel that we both love, and above all the silliness we always seem to create. Looking back at the summer before my senior year, I would have never thought that I would find my friend for life with her. But Heavenly Father knew what he was doing when he set our paths together!
I am so grateful for a dear sweet friend like her.

This mortal life can constitute a difficult journey, but the destination is truly glorious. Christ expressed this to His disciples: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
-Elder Quentin L. Cook
There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb
The struggles I’m facing,
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes they might knock me down but
No I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I,
I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on

The first thing that came to mind was a talk given by Elder Maxwell at BYU years ago, titled, "But For a Small Moment." He has a profound way of explaining timing and how all things are in the Lord's hands. He gently reminds us that as frustrated or weak or tired as we may be, there is One who stands by. Not idly, but lovingly, knowing that these are things that are shaping us to be His instruments and knowing that these situations we must face are part of His plan. He says:
"If God chooses to teach us the things we most need to learn because he loves us, and if he seeks to tame our souls and gentle us in the way we most need to be tamed and most need to be gentled, it follows that he will customize the challenges he gives us and individualize them so that we will be prepared for life in a better world by his refusal to take us out of this world, even though we are not of it. In the eternal ecology of things we must pray, therefore, not that things be taken from us, but that God's will be accomplished through us."
I know it's hard, I know it's difficult. I know you're being pushed to bounds you have never reached before. And I know you can't understand why in the world things don't seem to be working out how you thought they would or how you would like them to. But my testimony is that we all agreed to carry the cross we bear in our lives before we came down and in return God promised an added measure of support and blessings from him to guarantee that we would overcome this mortal experience. He knows what He is asking of you and He has never been more proud of you then at these moments when you fall to your knees and proclaim, "Thy will be done, " even when there are no answers in sight.
The Lord's path is not always what we seem to think we want, but it is always what we need. So staying true to my motto-Come what may with all these things and I will find a way to love them.
